Last night’s meetup was hosted by Misys Philippines! This was our first meetup in Makati for 2016, and it was a pretty good one!

Don Escuro, Software Development Manager, formally welcomed us to Misys Philippines and to tonight’s meetup.

Don welcoming everyone to Misys and to tonight’s meetup

People actually started arriving at 6:00 in the evening, so we had some time to get to know each other and have our pictures taken:

Early birds!
Yay!

As with recent meetups, we used Open Space to faciliate the meetup. We had 3 rounds with 5 topic stations per round, timeboxed to 25 minutes each round. The topics to be discussed came from everyone who attended.

9 topics down, 6 slots to go!

The topic stations were called by letters, spelling M-I-S-Y-S. The two S’s wasn’t as confusing thankfully. We used to mark stations with large post-its, but Misys decided to be more creative this time around:

Balloons!

Topics and schedule were:

Alright!

Round 1: 8:00 PM — 8:25 PM

  • M: How do you convert Agile non-believers?
  • I: Agenda in an effective retrospective
  • S: Story point estimation: effort and complexity vs. complexity
  • Y: How to transition people from traditional waterfall to Agile?
  • S: Tools to help product/release

Round 2: 8:30 PM — 8:55 PM

  • M: Regression testing strategy
  • I: How to effectively schedule QA testing in a (2 week) sprint
  • S: For Scrum: Scrum Alliance vs. Scrum.org?
  • Y: Agile gamification
  • S: Ideal Definition of “Done”

Round 3: 9:00 PM — 9:25 PM

  • M: How to make stand ups fun and effective?
  • I: Self organizing w/o asking to self organize
  • S: How to motivate teams the Agile way?
  • Y: Is no estimates possible?
  • S: What makes a complete sprint?

We started wrapping up at 9:30 PM with a big circle sharing session, *RAFFLE*, and our traditional group photo. As always, we think we could have gone longer, but that will have to wait until the next meetup. Thank you to everyone to participated!

Thank you again to Misys Philippines for warmly welcoming us to their office. We had amazing food and coverage with photos and live video throughtout the meetup! Special thanks to the following for making the meetup possible:

  • Don Escuro, Manila Leaders, and Misys PH Site Leadership Team
  • Razel Lingao, and the rest of the MiSocials team
  • Kimi Inigo, and the rest of the MiComms team
  • Manny Ongjuco, Odessa Puzon, and the rest of the Facilities team
  • Mike Sinoben, and the rest of the IS team

Agile Philippines meetups happen every last Wednesday of a month. This is a community event, and is made possible by the people who go to the meetups, and the organizations who open their doors to allow us to meet as a community. Please do reach out to our Facebook group if your organization is interested in hosting a future meetup!

See you guys next meetup on September 28 at Willis Towers Watson in Bonifacio Global City!
