This month’s meetup was hosted by Smart Communications, Inc.! The community was at their offices way back in 2013, when we started having formal meetups, and it is good to be back!

Lyndsay De Villa, Senior Manager, Service Delivery Platforms, formally welcomed us to Smart and to tonight’s meetup.

Chei welcoming everyone to Smart and to tonight’s meetup

Earlier, the first handful of people who arrived were all first timers!

First timers! Welcome!

We spent the first half hour of the meetup connecting with other participants over pizza and drinks.

Yay!

We used Open Space to facilitate the meetup. We had 3 rounds, timeboxed to 25 minutes each. There were 5 topic stations per round, and 5 minute gaps between rounds so everyone can figure out where to go next. The topics we discussed came from those at the meetup.

Alright!

Topics and schedule were:

Round 1: 7:50 PM–8:15 PM

  • S: How to convince your boss to use Agile?
  • M: Are we courageous enough for Agile as Asians?
  • A: Performance reviews/assessment and salary evaluations
  • R: Definition of Done when a separate QA team handles testing
  • T: What are effective Agile metrics to use?

Round 2: 8:20 PM–8:45 PM

  • S: Working with remote teams: challenges and tips
  • M: Performance testing
  • A: Scrum Master vs Agile Coach
  • R: Behavior Driven Development
  • T: Automation testing

Round 3: 8:50 PM–9:15 PM

  • S: Too many projects, too few team members
  • M: Exploratory testing (test charters, sbet…)
  • A: Handling deadlines in Agile
  • R: How to be an effective Scrum Master
  • T: Agile project vs. tech support (operation)

And it looks like some really had a good time!

We started wrapping up at around 9:30 in the evening with a big circle sharing session, passing around my umbrella which doubled as a “microphone”.

Closing

As always, we think we could have gone longer, but that will have to wait until the next meetup. Thank you to everyone to participated!

Thank you again to Smart for warmly welcoming us to their office and for supporting the community again this year! Special thanks to Lyndsay De Villa and Lhiza Escañan for making this meetup happen!

Agile Philippines meetups happen every last Wednesday of a month. This is a community event, and is made possible by the people who go to the meetups, and the organizations who open their doors to allow us to meet as a community. Please do reach out to our Facebook group if your organization is interested in hosting a future meetup!

See you guys at our last meetup for 2016 on December 7 at Nokia Philippines at UP Ayala Technohub, Quezon City! This is our first ever meetup in Quezon City and we can’t be more excited!
