Last night’s meetup was hosted by Nokia Technology Center Philippines! This is our first ever meetup in Quezon City, and it was a pretty good one!

Tivo Mallillin, Competence Development Manager, formally welcomed us to Nokia and to tonight’s meetup.

Tivo welcoming everyone to Nokia and to tonight’s meetup

As always, we had a light dinner while waiting for everyone else to sort themselves from the traffic.

Hello!

We used Open Space to facilitate the meetup. We had 3 rounds, timeboxed to 25 minutes each. There were 5 topic stations per round, and 5 minute gaps between rounds so everyone can figure out where to go next. The topics we discussed came from those at the meetup.

Amazingly, the station names spelled N-O-K-I-A!

N-O-K-I-A

The first step is always the hardest, and this guy led the way!

First of many

Topics and schedule were:

Round 1: 8:00 PM–8:25 PM

  • N: What if a team is not competent enough to meet business commitments?
  • O: Working with remote team
  • K: Hours vs points in measuring velocity
  • I: Scrum with two members
  • A: Setting customer expectations on budget (initial/start of the project)

Round 2: 8:30 PM–8:55 PM

  • N: Separate Dev and QA workflow
  • O: Struggle between Waterfall/Agile mindset
  • K: Enterprise Software: How do I Agile across multiple products simultaneously?
  • I: Scrum board physicial or digital?
  • A: Scope creep prevention

Round 3: 9:00 PM–9:25 PM

  • N: Dealing with not so engaging clients
  • O: Will Agile work in SAP?
  • K: What is Agile in project management?
  • I: Management on Scrum
  • A: Dealing with difficult/demotivated members

Some groups figured out the photos being taken, so:

I see what you did there

We started wrapping up at around 9:30 in the evening with a big circle sharing session. We had a real wireless microphone this time.

Closing

As always, we think we could have gone longer, but that will have to wait until the next meetup. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Thank you again to Nokia for warmly welcoming us to their office and for paving the way for a meetup in Quezon City! Special thanks to Tivo Mallillin, Joanne Caparas, Mark Ponce de Leon, Erwin Ong, Louella Maria Suque, and Jerwin Sornoza for making this meetup happen!

Hours before the meetup

Agile Philippines meetups happen every last Wednesday of a month. This is a community event, and is made possible by the people who go to the meetups, and the organizations who open their doors to allow us to meet as a community.

Please do reach out to our Facebook group if your organization is interested in hosting a future meetup. This is the last meetup for 2016, and so the dates for the next half year are:

  • January 27
  • February 24
  • March 30
  • April 27
  • May 25
  • June 29

See you guys in 2017!
