This month’s meetup was hosted by Nimbyx Philippines and iQmetrix Philippines!

We had an awesome Star Wars-inspired message from Glen Lee, CTO of Nimbyx Philippines. Lourdes Peraren and Mich Gonzales, Development Managers of Nimbyx Philippines and iQmetrix Philippines, respectively, then formally welcomed us to their offices and to tonight’s meetup.

Des and Mich welcoming us to Nimbyx and to tonight’s meetup

We had a light dinner and some introductions while we waited for everyone to arrive.

Hello!

Our earliest birds were really these boxes of doughnuts from Tim Hortons. They were followed by Subway sandwiches some time later.

I had a couple

And lots of first timers too!

First timers!

We used Open Space to facilitate the meetup.

4 principles of open space
The law of two feet

We had 3 rounds, timeboxed to 20 minutes each. There were 6 topic stations per round, and 5 minute gaps between rounds so everyone can figure out where to go next. The topics we discussed came from those at the meetup.

That post it under “Q” was “Isn’t Agile dead?”

Topics and schedule were:

Round 1: 7:50 PM–8:10 PM

  • N: How to define sprint cycle for small scale “RAD” projects?
  • M: Agile for non-software (ex. services)
  • B: How do you shift to Agile from other methods i.e., SDLC, etc?
  • X: Performance evaluation for devs on Agile environment
  • I: Agile on multiple projects and 1 team
  • Q: Isn’t Agile dead?

Round 2: 8:15 PM–8:35 PM

  • N: How will Agile work with ITIL?
  • M: How many teams can a Scrum Master be involved in and still be effective?
  • B: How do we manage roadblocks when there are managers who are not open to Agile?
  • X: What’s your biggest pain point as a Scrum Master/Agile team member?
  • I: Company size in doing Agile?
  • Q: Scaling Agile

Round 3: 8:40 PM–9:00 PM

  • N: How do you keep sprints productive with a PO/stakeholder that doesn’t claim ownership
  • M: How do you define requirements in one go?
  • B: How to properly estimate tickets
  • X: Agile and holocracy will it work?
  • I: Attracting Agile talent
  • Q: How do you manage change in priority in the middle of a sprint?

We started wrapping up at around 9:00 in the evening with our big circle sharing session and a short raffle.

Closing

As always, we think we could have gone longer, but that will have to wait until the next meetup. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Thank you again to Nimbyx Philippines and iQmetrix Philippines for warmly welcoming us to their office! Special thanks to Mich Gonzales, Lourdes Peraren, Glen Lee, Jenelle Wong, Jeremy Tan, Guerric Lim, Justin Bautista, Hazel Doria, Imelda Lanoria, Gelan Quizora, Joseph Khalaf, and Loraine Ramos for making this meetup happen!

Lots of support that I wasn’t able to capture everyone! Thank you!

Agile Philippines meetups happen every last Wednesday of a month. This is a community event, and is only made possible by the people who go to the meetups, and the organizations who open their doors to allow us to meet as a community.

Please do reach out to our Facebook group if your organization is interested in hosting a future meetup.

See you next month at ITRS in Makati City!
