This month’s meetup was hosted by Nokia Technology Center Philippines! This is Nokia’s second time hosting the Agile Philippines community, and our second meetup in Quezon City!

Meetup!

Gino Villanueva, Nokia 5G Product Owner , formally welcomed us to Nokia and to tonight’s meetup.

Gino welcoming everyone to Nokia and to tonight’s meetup

People started arriving early, so we had a lot of time to connect with other participants before the meetup actually started.

Hello!

Lots of first-timers too!

Welcome!

We used Open Space to facilitate the meetup. We had 5 topics for each round, spelling N-O-K-I-A, with a total of 3 rounds of 20 minutes each. 5 minute gaps separated each round for us to figure out where to go next.

Topic board: DONE!

Topics and schedule were:

Round 1: 7:30 PM–7:50 PM

  • N: When to address backlogs during sprint?
  • O: How to motivate team?
  • K: Does the Scrum Master have to be a full time role?
  • I: How to adapt Agile in a fast track development?
  • A: Best practice about setting estimates

Round 2: 7:55 PM–8:15 PM

  • N: Process of building of backlog/metric?
  • O: Specific roles for each member, effective or not?
  • K: Removal of distractions
  • I: Transitioning from waterfall to Agile
  • A: Using story points as a measure of added product value/needed work

Round 3: 8:20 PM–8:40 PM

  • N: How not to default back to waterfall?
  • O: How to measure team performance/metric in Agile?
  • K: Is there a limit to the number of story points assigned to a person per sprint?
  • I: Resourcing: when you Agile team members are involved with other projects
  • A: We often have user stories estimated at, say, 3 points, then during development we feel 3 points wasn’t enough due to various reasons like scope creep or complexity

We started wrapping up at around 8:40 in the evening with a big closing circle. We used one of the packed dinners as token to pass arround.

This *could* work (and it did!)

As always, we think we could have gone longer, but that will have to wait until the next meetup!

Thank you again to Nokia for welcoming us to your space. Special thanks to Mark Jefferson “MJ” Ponce De Leon, Gabriel “Gab” Matias, Gino Paolo “GinPao” Villanueva, and the rest of Nokia who made the meetup as success!

Nokia!
Thank you!

Agile Philippines meetups happen every last Wednesday of a month. This is a community event, and is only made possible by the people who go to the meetups, and the organizations who open their doors to allow us to meet as a community.

Please do reach out to our Facebook group if your organization is interested in hosting a future meetup.

See you next month at Freelancer in Bonifacio Global City! This would be our last meetup for 2017!
