This February’s meetup was hosted by PayMaya Philippines! This is the first time they are hosting an Agile Philippines meetup, and the community’s first meetup in Mandaluyong City!

Judith Carranza, Quality Engineering Lead and Tech Lead of Mobile Financial Services Engineering, formally welcomed us to PayMaya and to tonight’s meetup!

Marics Uchida, Community Manager, also shared PayMaya’s community initiatives.

We started socializing before we officially started:

We used Open Space to facilitate the meetup. And we had a REALLY nice space that night:

Perfect for Open Space

We had 4 topics for each round, spelling P-Y-M-Y, with a total of 3 rounds of 20 minutes each. 5 minute gaps separated each round for us to figure out where to go next.

Topic board: DONE!

Topics and schedule were:

Round 1: 7:50 PM–8:10 PM

  • P: Thoughts on pair programming
  • Y: How did you find an Agile consultant that really helped you on your Agile transformation?
  • M: What makes Scrum/Agile the right methodology today?
  • Y: Do you believe that Agile gives you the room to commit mistakes? Yes/No and why?

Round 2: 8:15 PM–8:35 PM

  • P: How to facilitate an effective sprint retrospective?
  • Y: Share your Agile Shu Ha Ri experience
  • M: How to handle development blockers?
  • Y: Is waterfall really that bad?

Round 3: 8:40 PM–9:00 PM

  • P: How do you apply Agile in a non-software process? Like operations or project management.
  • Y: How to transition from Scrum to Kanban?
  • M: Differentiate burn-up & burn-down charts?
  • Y: Speak up: Getting people involved

We started wrapping up at around 9:00 in the evening, followed by a special prizes for the first 20 people who arrived, and a raffle with 5 lucky attendees winning PHP 1,000.00 PayMaya card credits!

Closing circle

As always, we think we could have gone longer, but that will have to wait until the next meetup!

Thank you again PayMaya Philippines for warmly welcoming us to your space, and to the people who made the meetup happen!

Agile Philippines meetups happen every last Wednesday of a month. This is a community event, and is only made possible by the people who go to the meetups, and the organizations who open their doors to allow us to meet as a community.

Please do reach out to our Facebook group if your organization is interested in hosting a future meetup.

See you in March at Quad X in Makati City!
