Agile Philippines Meetup 2020.07
We are halfway through 2020! Another online Agile Philippines meetup, and we switched back to a monthly cadence, after doing “shorter sprints” to better learn and adapt to these strange times.
We also made use of a photo from a past meetup in the meeting invite:
We had one big call, and used lean coffee to facilitate meetup. We covered 5 topics, with 20 minute time boxes per topic. The discussions turn philosophical, and a bit political, but quite rich and insightful nonetheless!
Topics and schedule were:
7:05 PM–8:45 PM:
- SAFe — Agile on the outside but Waterfall on the inside. How might we change or address deeply rooted behaviors or practices (i.e. Software Development).
- Why most organizations fall into the trap of investing in agile practices without understanding the agile principles behind it?
- What new agile-related thing did you get to learn and practice during the pandemic?
- Can somebody with zero knowledge/background in IT take the certification exam and be a Scrum Master? Is it advisable? What could be the possible repercussions?
- When not to be agile?

- “You have to trust that these people understand and can apply what they’ve learned outside the training. Probably think of it this way: Some people can be verbally participative yet deep inside they don’t agree or don’t care :)”

- “Every last Wednesday (of a month, except December)”
We started wrapping up close to 9:00 in the evening. We had a short retrospective, followed by a group screenshot. As always, we think we could have gone longer, but that will have to wait until the next meetup!
Agile Philippines meetups happen every last Wednesday of a month. This is a community event, and is only made possible by the people who go to the meetups, and the organizations who open their doors to allow us to meet as a community.
Please do reach out to our Facebook group or Slack if your organization is interested in hosting a future meetup.
See you in August!
